Would you like to help support people with dementia and their carers?

Pabulum is an Age UK Norfolk project working to improve the lives and well-being of people with dementia and their carers. The project aims to nourish the minds of its service users through the use of reminiscence-based, person-centred support in group work, Cafes and home visits.

Would you like to help? We are looking for volunteers to become involved in the following activities:

Pabulum Cafes

Volunteers are needed to participate in the Pabulum Cafes which are held in Costessey, Wymondham and Diss. Volunteers help service users to handle and communicate over a collection of items from the 40s, 50s and 60s which reflect the chosen reminiscence theme for the month. They also help support carers and serve refreshments.

Wroxy Music

Wroxy Music meets once a month for musical activities. It is based on the awareness that people with dementia can often communicate more easily through music than verbal or other methods of communication.

Life Story Book work

Pabulum also runs a Life Story Book project for a small number of individuals with dementia, with the support of their carers. Two volunteers visit them at home, once a week for up to 12 weeks, and build up a collection of stories, photos and other memorabilia, based on the current memories of the cared-for person. They will arrange these in a book, to be kept by the service user and family. This is particularly beneficial as a starting point for family, friends, hospital staff, day centres and respite staff to get to know the person and to assist communication with them.

If you are interested in becoming a Pabulum volunteer, please contact Diane Collins on 01603 787111 or email diane.collins@acnorfolk.org.uk.
