Places are still available for Tai Chi classes at the Denny Centre in Diss which currently take place on Thursday afternoons between 3.50pm and 4.50pm.
The classes have been running for almost 9 months and have proved to be a social event as well as an exercise class for a large number of those attending.
The classes consist of postural alignment, breathing exercises which are excellent for those with respiratory problems, slow gentle movements which increase mobility and postural strength, and relaxation techniques - often being the favourite part of the class for a number of participants. Tai Chi is a suitable exercise programme for those who may not be able to take part in other activities, and can also be done sitting down as well as standing.
The tutor, Maria Holland, commented:
“I have seen great improvements in all those coming to the classes from increased postural strength, stamina and endurance, co-ordination, mobility and breathing control. I believe that although Tai Chi is a great exercise for all ages it is particularly beneficial for the elderly”.
Participants have remarked:
“I have found I am more focused after taking my 3rd Tai Chi course. It is an excellent way to de-stress”.
“I enjoy the non frenetic exercise in the peace and calm”.
“It is easy to learn no matter how uncoordinated you are, stretching and toning your muscles, relieving neck, back and shoulder pain and definitely making your legs stronger”.
“Tai Chi is not only beneficial to the body and mind, it is a social event and laughter can be heard as we become very positive friends”.

Another 6-week Tai Chi course will start from Thursday 23rd April between 2.45-3.45pm or 3.50-4.50pm. If you’d like to come along please telephone Judith Head at the Denny Centre on 01379 640741 and sign up for the next block of lessons. The cost is £21 for the 6-week course
(£3.50 per lesson).
